My Most Anticipated Films of 2023
Updated: Jun 6
Here are some of the films I'm most excited for in the year 2023!

2022 has been a great year for movies, and 2023 will surely be full of even more! From a new biopic by Christopher Nolan, to another globetrotting adventure with the world's favorite archaeologist, here are some of my most anticipated upcoming releases!
#4: Barbie/Directed by Greta Gerwig

I'll just say it: I never had interest in playing with Barbie dolls as a kid. However, I have also seen The Lego Movie (2014) and The Lego Batman Movie (2017), and both were as pleasantly surprising as cinematic toy advertisements could be. Hopes were increased once Greta Gerwig was announced as the director, having co-adapted the screenplay with her husband, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story (2019). Add in a stellar cast, including Margot Robbie as Barbie, Ryan Gosling as Ken, and Emma Mackey and Ncuti Gatwa of Sex Education (2019-), and you have a movie that I'm now very excited for, whatever the plot may be!
#3: Oppenheimer/Written & Directed by Christopher Nolan

It'll have been six years since Christopher Nolan's Oscar-winning previous historical drama Dunkirk (2017), and here he's exploring all-new territory, with Cillian Murphy filling the role of the creator of the atom bomb. Throw in a stellar supporting cast, from Ewan McGregor to Rami Malek, and all in all, I couldn't be more pumped for this picture!
#2: MaXXXine/Written & Directed by Ti West

In the same year, indie darling Ti West gave us a new horror masterpiece with X, and a genuinely emotionally gripping origin story for its villain with Pearl, including an awards-worthy performance by modern scream queen Mia Goth. Now, Maxine Minx, her protagonist from the former, continues her journey to become a star in 1980s Los Angeles, after surviving the bloody massacre that befell her fellow cast and crew for her last project. with X having been my favorite movie of this year, and Pearl having been another one of my favorites, I cannot overstate my anticipation for the grand finale of West's trilogy.
#1: Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny/Directed by James Mangold

Now, this has no competition for being the most anticipated movie of 2023 for me. The Indiana Jones series has always held a special spot in my heart, especially since Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) was what showed me the breadth of cinema's capabilities. Helmed by action master James Mangold (Logan, Ford v. Ferrari), it follows Indy's attempts to stop a powerful Nazi named Jurgen Voller (Mads Mikkelsen) from obtaining an artifact that can literally alter the course of history. Add in a supporting cast including Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Boyd Holbrook and Antonio Banderas, and you can be sure I'll see it opening weekend!
